Paolo Nutini - These Streets

These Streets was Nutini's debut album and so thealbum art for it was something new. The first thing you notice are the different colours, all of which give off a happy vibe but have different connotations.

White - the white used here represents virginity and perfection with a positive connotation. Sometimes white can be the representation of a successful beginning, and being placed as the start of all the colours, i think this is its true meaning.

Yellow - yellow is seen to be the colour of sunshine, it represents joy and happiness and gives of positive energy and a good vibe. It is warming and can stimulate cheerfulness. The yellow is a bright yellow which is an 'attention getter' which is its main purpose for being used here.

Orange - orange can represent enthusiasm, happiness, creativity, determination, success and fascination. Due to its high viability, it is used to hear to attract attention.

Red - red can be associated with energy, strength, power, determination and passion. It can sometimes be used to encourage people which is why it is used here.

Black - although black has many meanings, the reason it is used here is simply for the text to stand out and make the album more bold and noticeable.

All these colours are used in an ascending order which can present the was the artist ascended to become better and more known to the music industry. I also think the shades of the colour are very retro which is the feel you get from when you look at this. The text very retro style from the 60's which was a simple time where people where into being free and happy which is what the artist tries to do. The text is written sideways which is unusual, but I also think Nutuni is very unusual himself so this may just exemplify his personality. The pictures are all of him but he doesn't look very happy. The guitar is seen here to represent his love of music. The hair style and the clothes are typical of the indie style so by looking at this you know its indie genre music. The repetitive images of him show that he is a solo artist and not in a band, in each image he is doing a different pose, maybe representing his wide variety of skills as a solo artist. The images are very similar to the work or the artist David Bailey from the same era of the 60's and has been used on other artists such as The Beatles.
